The Drum & Bass Thread (formally Drum 'n' Bass is dead?)
The Drum & Bass Thread (formally Drum 'n' Bass is dead?) Posted on: 19.08.2008 by Random X Every now and than, a musical genres foremost poet or pioneer will come forth claiming the style is dead. We've already seen it in punk, hip hop, metal, rock and opera already. Stupidest thing even, that this seems to be some kind of "retro- cycle" that passes along every decade. With the coming of styles like dubstep amongst others, purists are really keen on claiming that these styles are no derative or subgenre of our beloved DnB. Better yet, they utter the words "DnB is dead!" If your own creative impulses can't cope with a style any longer, why claim it is dead in the first place? Couldn't it just evolve into other (sub)styles? No, kill your idols instead! There seems to be no better way to start something new, than completely destroy any relations with the past. How can a genre with high BPM rates be dead, while comparing it to the ever so low BPM rates of the ever so vivid dubstep? Ofcourse, BPM rates are not a factor in this case, but people listening and enjoying DnB are. There are still heaps and heaps of bass-heads still jumping their shoes to the sounds of d&b pioneers as Krush, Bukem, Dom & Roland and all others still producing. Agreed that the old spirit needs to be revived. Still, it's no reason to don the old lass after that much joy she has given us. Drum and Bass is dead? It seems ever so vibrant as it was in 1996! | |

Also working on a dubstep Edit of Viperfish, but not really feeling it. Might play it out in Ak in a few weeks and see how it goes down, wanted to drop it @ Nero. |
Monet Yucel 07.09.2009 | Dude! That Current Value - Bruja is fu#$in sick any idea of a release date? |
Adolf Hit 07.09.2009 | Opening for The Upbeats on friday evening , cant wait |
Ryan Morales 07.09.2009 | Heres a whole shitload of 1/2step DnB which I'm feeln atm. This stuff has been msotly ignored in the past but with the advent of Dubstep & the like of dBridge - Wonder Where and now DJ Hype & the Ganja crew picking up on it I believe it become popular. So lets start with Wonder Where & then move into the heavy shit. I would describe this as Burial meets liquid/deep DnB. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1WAE1mInyqw This is basically a 174 BPM Rusko tune. Will fucking slay Dfloors tho. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y6KztGJELFI Just picked this up on Promo - Shall be dropping it @ Nero in a few weeks time. Prob my least fav of the lot, but the only 'Jumpup 1/2step' tune released as yet. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ViPcm4x5ypY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DyfQOeGiAfI Noisia bringing it. - Sadly this is unreleased >< http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWxM-tVhX60 This is a mean tune, not very driving, but well heavy. Been trying to find this plate for a while, but no luck so far. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L7uAaopVGGg Mellower 1/2step tune, still packs a punch tho. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tv1PGiiWOm4 Now for some Gash-step. This shit is vile, fucking heavy & makes the other stuff look like it was made for prancing faeries. This first one has to be my pick, its yet to be released, but definately one to watch out for. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6EKxDeOwluo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5nZRXUaqIqE Theres also tunes such as Lynx - Disco Dodo & Amit - Swastika (actually shitloads of Amit, and even Lynx stuff) which are also in 1/2step DnB style & have been round for a while, but never really turned into its own thing. Same with Donny (except hes a brutal metal/gash version). |
Adolf Hit 07.09.2009 | Bodyrock was one of the first D&B tunes I ever had lol
since i know you guys like dupstep, i figured you were gonna love this:
|
Monet Yucel 06.09.2009 | I've got an original pressing of it, has to be one of my favourite tunes of all time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GJQpVaCH2kw |

Monet Yucel 03.09.2009 | Its been so long since I heard Body Rock, I do believe it is in need of the VIP treatment like thats been happening to a lot of the old school bangers. |
Ryan Morales 03.09.2009 | Chur for that tune bro, I'm gona drop it @ Nero. Mixes well with Workout. Huuuge doubledrop. I might have to go for the classic Timewarp + Smash TV, but mux it up by using the Aztec intro and the Classic BodyRock over the top. Should be good for some lulz. |
Monet Yucel 03.09.2009 | Just to keep things alive, this tune is a double drop smasher, you can really punch this through in the mix. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g64Y4lLpQPo |

Ryan Morales 19.08.2009 | I agree on pan-pipes, its decent but nothing special. I believe theres 1 or 2 of his other dubstep tunes on his myspace that are pretty siic tho. Looks like Benny is set to hit in April :] Going to try get him for a double up, 1h dubstep & 1h DnB set. Gwarn be epic Farq yeh |
Andriy Gavrysh 19.08.2009 | i can't help myself, but i was never fully convinced by panpipes... i mean it's not a bad track at all, but it just doesn't have that little special thing... btw, do you know from which essential mix that video is? |
Ryan Morales 19.08.2009 | Benny Page is siic! Should be getting him over to NZ next year sometime Gonna get a huge rig in there and roll it hard, proper jungle styles. |
Amada Brierley 18.08.2009 | espescially with zero-g....and not doing drum and bass :P http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jza5EghAneE |
Andriy Gavrysh 18.08.2009 | oh yeah, love that track!! one of my mates got it on colored vinyl and i'm so jealous i'm pretty sure you all know that track, but as it's a kick ass tune i'll post it anyways: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UbIZHhBLMAk benny page just kicks ass |
Charline Dunch 17.08.2009 | geez, will always love ragga dnb. big up benny page! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T-qkK...eature=related |

Random X 14.08.2009 | Time for some mad parking place raves! |
Monet Yucel 13.08.2009 | Phat Tater only a few hours away down here, gonna be massive, I bought the 1000th ticket yesterday lunch time at cosmic corner, thats one hell of a lot of smacked out faces in one room, gonna be massive. Then finishing off with some TT action at Bathies afterwards if I'm still allive. Its time to get MASHED!!!!!!!!!!!! |
Adolf Hit 13.08.2009 | Phat taster was a sic party, great line up in Zen of Cern, then SOM, then BSE (he fuckin ripped it up), and finishing with bulletproof. Shame about Fu, sound system was putz as allways so the dubstep experiance was lacking |
Ryan Morales 13.08.2009 | Tru, choice bro. Yeah JMC is a choice DJ. Mad skills. I dont really know Stonya or that many of the 'scene' people in Welly tbh. Only moved here by myself from Hamilton about a year and a 1/2 ago. Its all ok, just somewhat doing my own thing tbh. Sick Cycle guys are good as cunts. Got them up here a while back for my last gig. Yeah I'm not into the whole politics thing, just makes it more painful then it should be. Collaboration is key. Yeah I'd be keen as to colab on some gigs, internats or just getting some of you guys up here sometime perhaps. Will keep ya updated (add me on facebook - martin rp). Catch up for a beer or some shit when I'm next down in duds. |
